Grateful Dad #21: Healing
I don’t hide the fact that some things have not been well for us during the past several months. I lost my full-time job late last year just because resignation was the only practical option for me at that time. I’m glad though that my freelance job was able to sustain me and augment our family income throughout all those months.

And just when I thought that I’ve had enough, there were incidents that followed which tested our grit and patience. In the end, we were able to pull through from the deluge of seemingly unfortunate events. Just the same, I have to admit, too, that those occurrences left us wounded.
Months after those things happened. I could still feel the throbbing pain which was a constant reminder of the things that I was trying hard to forget them. I became irritable because of that. I was always losing my temper and I could feel my mental health suffering. There are really just some things that hurt us deeply and are therefore harder to ignore.
Anyway, it was a good thing that the past two months have been conducive to healing. Our recent trip back home to San Antonio provided the respite from the barrage of challenges and stress and provided the healing that Mommy Khris and I have been praying for during the past few months. I wouldn’t still say that we have healed completely.
However, the few days that we spent with my parents and the happiness of my kids spending time in the province were enough to set us off on the road to full recovery, so to speak. Indeed, there are a lot of things that we often take for granted but these are more valuable than all the riches in this world: a good relationship, a healthy body, a peaceful mind, the ability to draw happiness from the simplest of things, and being always grateful.
