Grateful Dad #12.23: Kapit Lang
I recently celebrated my first anniversary in my current job. One year, but I feel like a lot of things have happened in the last 12 months. It wasn’t an easy ride for me; joining a new industry had me grappling with a lot of things because of my lack of knowledge specific to the job itself such as systems and operations.
Grateful Dad #12.23: Kapit Lang
I thought of quitting more than once because I felt that I was lacking and ineffective. What kept me from filing my resignation were the words of encouragement from my wife and the inspiring words, videos, quotes, and music that I often watched, read, or listened to. I wanted to succeed. I wanted to stretch myself to the limits to see how far I could go. I said to myself that I’d know when it was finally time to surrender.
Throughout that period, I thought it funny that I often saw random encouraging words wherever I looked, even in some unexpected places. Indeed, as The Alchemist said, the world conspires to help you achieve something if you really want it. One of the encouraging words that I kept on seeing on my way to work is the wall art (graffiti) that read “Kapit Lang.” Those words were painted on what seemed to be a small shed from afar (I couldn’t tell) that was located right behind the Maybank Building in BGC. Each morning, while riding the BGC bus, I would wait to see that wall art whenever we were at 5th Avenue.
“Kapit Lang” literally means hold on but it could also mean don’t let go, don’t give up, keep on going, and so on. It means keeping your hopes high in the midst of challenges and adversities. I always felt better when I saw that “Kapit Lang” mural. Even up to this day, I still look at that street art while going to the office to give me a boost of inspiration and to remind myself that I fought hard and never gave up.
If you are going through a rough patch and feel a little lost, I suggest you try opening your eyes to the remarkable things around you. The universe will never let you down if you welcome its help. All you have to do is to be aware of the signs that the world uses to talk to you and your questions will be answered. In the end, just remember that you are meant to be where you are right now. And If you are searching for something, you will receive it if it were meant for you.
