Grateful Dad #13.23: Making Time For My Family
A big project at work culminated in the last two weeks, which meant that we were all occupied with fulfilling our respective deliverables for that project. It was a very hectic two weeks, which included working extended hours even on weekends.
Grateful Dad #13.23: Making Time For My Family
I’m not used to not spending time with my family since my children look forward to the weekends. I’ve already sacrificed two Saturdays but I made sure to spend Sundays with my family. I’m sure a lot of dads also feel the same way as I do, especially if their idea of relaxation is taking their family out to eat, visit the park, or travel out of town.
With that, even with very little sleep, I took my family to Robinsons Novaliches on a Sunday afternoon so that my two sons could have at least an hour of playtime. Robinsons Novaliches has a small indoor play area with token-operated rides and stuffed toy crane machines. The kids loved the rides, and it was enough to satisfy their need to play. Best of all, I love seeing my children having a good time even with simple activities.
After playing, the kids were already hungry. They love chicken so we decided to take them to KFC for lunch. We realized that they had not yet tried KFC, so we thought of eating there for a change. We ordered a bucket of chicken and rice while I ordered a chicken fillet for myself.
Honestly, KFC is not one of my favorites, but I can eat chicken breast. I like KFC’s gravy though and it seemed like my two kids loved the gravy as well. Overall, the chicken fillet that I ordered was average. I was expecting it to be like chicken nuggets but it was soft; halfway through it I was wondering if it was even fried at all. I also ordered iced coffee which I liked because it was strong. I was just wondering if the milk they used was condensed milk. On the whole, I was happy that my family had a good meal at KFC.
When we finished eating, Rafa was asking to buy toys so we took him to Toys R Us. By this time, Miguel was already sleeping while I carried him (my poor back!). As expected, Rafa was eyeing a transformer robot. We bought him a robot that transforms into a car and a bubble gun. I was sure that he would soon lose interest in those toys, which he did.
All in all, it was a Sunday well spent. I was glad with my decision to take a break from work and spend a few hours with my family. My two boys had a great time and I was able to go back to work with renewed energy.
How about you, do you feel the need to spend time with your family to reenergize yourself? How do you like to spend your weekends with your family?
