Grateful Dad #28: Onward
After close to a month of tight interview schedules from literally dozens of companies that I sent applications to, I finally got positive feedback from one (yes, just one!) firm. Of course, it’s not yet final and done until I sign a contract. I’m still in the waiting game but it’s just good to know that at least one of my job applications has progressed.
Grateful Dad #28: Onward
What I like about this whole experience of being a stay-at-home dad is that I was able to grow my blog and social media pages (aka my personal brand) which have been a wonderful source of income and other opportunities throughout the months that I don’t have a full-time job.
At the same time, I get to spend a lot of time with my kids. I can bring Miguel to his school every day and take Rafa along with us in the car, I’ve been helping Miguel do his home activities to reinforce his lessons, teach Rafa some numbers and letters, and read to my children at night.
My hands are full and I’m enjoying each day’s surprises. I just couldn’t help but look back at my mindset when I was about to resign from my full-time job last year. I felt disheartened and uncertain but I told myself that whatever was going to happen was meant to happen. Nothing is permanent so I just have to make do with what I had at that moment.
Here’s what I learned from that experience:
We always have a choice. We can choose to sail onward or be stuck in a void. On a lot of occasions, the things that we want to see don’t reveal themselves to us immediately, we have to seek them. The same goes for opportunities; we have to chase after them because they won’t effortlessly come to us.
We have the power to overturn a bad situation, all it takes is a change in perspective. I could’ve chosen to sulk when I had to stay at home but I didn’t. I chose to see it as a chance to spend time with my family and take care of them.
Things will happen when they’re supposed to happen. No timing is bad timing, even if we have to wait longer than we wanted to. Having said that, don’t lose hope. Just continue to pray; God knows exactly what we need.
I would also have to relate to my own experience Miguel’s progress in his school. He is making an improvement with regard to his ability to focus as well as his motor skills. One area though that we are finding a little challenging is identifying the different colors.
It’s consistent both at home and at school. However, his teacher reminded me to just continue doing color-matching activities even if Miguel seemed to be not paying attention. We’d be surprised that one day he’d be able to ace that activity.
